It was absolutely GORGEOUS out today. 46 degrees and sunny. I was walking around all day with the BIGGEST smile on my face and the weather definitely had something to do with it. And for the first time in forever (no frozen pun intended), NO BOOTS! I love my bean boots and my hunters, but it’s been a long winter and my legs are dying to breathe. I may go bare-legged tomorrow if I’m REALLY feeling daring, but we’ll see.
Dress: Boutique near my hometown, brand is Romeo and Juliet Couture/ Shirt: Banana Republic/ Necklace: J.Crew/Tights: Target/Shoes: Modcloth.
I totally stole the idea for this outfit off of Pinterest. I’ve been feeling kind of uninspired lately, and this morning I quickly searched “classic style” to see what I could come up with. There was an almost overwhelming amount of striped tops with crisp, white bottoms. I’ve recently made a couple orders with white bottoms in them (The J.Crew fluted skirt in Ivory and the Old Navy Pixie pants in classic white), but neither have come yet and I really wanted to try out this look. So, I improvised with a white lace dress and a blouse over it. I LOVE this Banana Republic shirt-I picked it up when I was home for thanksgiving and I wear it all the time. It’s so classic and I can layer almost any statement necklace over it. Today, I chose my cluster faux-pearls from J.Crew. Confession: they’re actually from CrewCuts, but no one would ever know ;). I finished it off with navy tights and the adorable Modcloth bow flats I talked about a few posts back. I really like how this outfit turned out- i’ve never really been used to mixing textures and patterns before, but I think stripes and lace are a really easy and classic way to do it. I can’t wait to keep experimenting in the spring!
What has this “heatwave” brought out in your wardrobe? What are you excited to wear this spring?
I have to make a confession, I am utterly obsessed with gossip girl. I’ve been tearing through episodes on Netflix all winter and I am almost done with season 2. Naturally, I am drawn to Blair’s ultra polished, feminine style. The costume designers on the show are truly incredible.
I’ve always worn ballet flats as my chosen footwear. It’s still too cold/full of puddles out here to wear them if I have to walk anywhere, but I’m counting down the days until I can sport the collection I’ve amassed. These are three of my favorite pairs, but I have about six or seven more. The Madewell calf-hair pair is my newest one and I am in love. Very reminiscent of Paris and effortless femininity.
In tenth grade, I had a love affair with colored tights. I didn’t always style them with grace and tact, and I often ended up looking like I was wearing some awful, 1980: workout costume. However, Gossip Girl has definitely inspired me to give them another go. I adore pairing opaque, colored tights with simple dresses and skirts, giving the entire outfit a color-blocked, mod feel. They can also be used to add some fun and visual interest to a business casual outfit or any form of “conservative” wear. So, here are some of my ideas for styling statement ballet flats and colored tights. Let me know your take on this trend!
Pants: Old Navy/ Top: J.Crew/ Cardigan: H&M/Boots: Hunter/Watch: Michael Kors
So. I constantly talk about my hatred for pants. I just don’t feel feminine or special in them! However, when I saw these beautiful printed pixie pants at Old Navy, my war reached a ceasefire. They remind me a lot of the J.Crew medallion pants, but they were about seventy dollars less expensive. So, YES. They are currently $25 online, so I’m tempted to scoop up another pair. They have them in about ten adorable prints and colors, so, lots of options 😉 I used to be scared of printed pants because I figured they wouldn’t do my bottom half any favors, but I’m coming around to it, and I love how much pizazz they add to an otherwise plain outfit.
I paired it with my J.Crew tilda top (that I have in two colors…oops), and a navy cardigan for H&M. I WAS wearing cute, nude flats earlier, but Michigan weather strikes again and we got hit with a snowstorm. So…hunters it is. I have to just hold on to the small instances of spring that we’ve been graced with this week. Soon, all the gray will be over and i’ll regain my piece of mind. At least, that’s what I sincerely hope. The whole aesthetic is very patriotic, which I am always a fan of. I think this is a great transitional outfit and I’ll definitely be repeating all of these pieces throughout the season!
Much love and more posts coming your way!
Dress: Target/ Belt: Francescas/ Vest: Old Navy/ Tights: Target/ Boots: Hunter/Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company/Necklace: Macy’s/Watch: Michael Kors/ Sunglasses: francescas.
This outfit was both unintentionally patriotic and seasonally inappropriate, but I couldn’t care less. Target KILLED IT this fall, bringing in all sorts of cute, classic pieces. Although, I have to admit that their clothes are getting a little pricier than normal, which isn’t all that great, but I’ll take it if it means cuter, higher-quality items. This belt was an awesome piece I found at Francescas. It’s such a great store for girly-girls like me, I can always find something I like in there. Their clothes are reasonably priced and their statement jewelry section is to die for. And, like a broken record, I will never stop wearing my old navy vest. I WILL NOT, I SAY. I plan on buying more next season in different colors. Sorry wallet. Same goes for my pearl necklace. I wear it at least three times a week, or more. Classy girls wear pearls, am I right? (Ok, so i’m obsessed with Sarah Vickers and KJP but honestly, who isn’t?)
After a questionably warm week, it’s back to the tundra for us here in michigan, so stepping outside for these shots was quite the task. BUT I managed to do it!
We have a three day weekend and I am already eternally grateful for the break. How many weeks of classes have we had? What? Two? Oops. Ok well. Only about five weeks to go until spring break. That’s the mentality.
Enjoy your weekend and please ignore my messy hair. Blame the wind for that one.
Hat: JCrew/Skirt: J.Crew (Ebay)/Top: Dynamite/ Tights: target/Monogram Necklace: Max and Chloe (www.maxandchloe.com)
Today is my last day of break and I decided that in order to not spend it curled up in a ball crying, I would need to pull myself together and dress like a human being. I just went with staple pieces today that I always rely on when I want to throw together a cute outfit. I found this blouse at the store Dynamite and it’s actually the perfect year-round basic. My skirt is a J.Crew city mini, which is THE most essential skirt on the planet. I have it in fuchsia and black, and my sister has it in navy and royal blue. The most popular City Mini by far is the tartan plaid, which sold out EVERYWHERE this past month. Unfortunately, J.Crew did not release a line of wool city minis aside from the Tartan and Gold Sequin varieties this winter, otherwise I would have probably purchased every single solid color in my size. However, I’m hoping in the spring they will bring the linen ones back so I can pick up a couple for the warmer weather. I really love this monogram necklace, although I probably sound like a broken record as every “preppy” girl and her mother seems to have one of these right now, but who could blame them? They are classic and adorable. And of course, the hat. I posted about it in my “favorite things” and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use it as a completer piece today. The obsession is real and I may have to be making a return to J.Crew (or J.Crew.com), to browse their other baseball caps.
I hope you all are having fabulous sundays (if any of you are out there :P)!
Ps. Oh. The whole Starbucks-through-a-straw thing. You know.
